I come to Ben's usually to catch up with my family since we all love it there. I don't deviate much from my standard lemongrass chicken + pork dish since I love it so much, even if it is pretty straight forward. I could live off the crispy wontons ommm nom. .......you want to go back! The Blackshire is a great place to have a beer.Recently taken over by new owners, this place has a new life. Most food is locally sourced and the beer has a local theme too. Sonita tries to get beer from within 100 miles of the pub, and a lot of the food is sourced from the same area. The menu is upscale pub food with a seasonal twist. Spring Leek Salad, Local Lamb, Crab Apple Salad, fondue with cheese made with local beer, etc.I usually get the fondue as the portion is huge and it is about $10.00, or I get wings in the evening when they are half price. FIre and ice are great!The place has a large patio which is usually fairly busy. Inside, it is typical pub decor with a homey feel to it. Pub quiz night is a solid night to go on to get to know the owners and regulars. I find it better to go to the bar to order your drinks, as table service can be a bit lacking. Taps total 20, including Railway City, Stratford, Creemore,Black Oak, Great Lakes, Steamwhistle, and the bottle selection is limited but has included many micros. I took my husband out for dinner last night, to celebrate his birthday. It was our first visit to David's and we were both impressed. First, I want to commend the great service we received. We were looked after in a timely, and polite manor. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We only ordered entrees, as we aren't big eaters and find restaurant portions fill us quickly. He ordered the chicken and wow -- the bacon sauce was fantastic. I kept trying to steal it of his plate. I ordered the filet mignon, and it was cooked to perfection. My gnocchi was light and tasty. But I will say that my sauce was a little bland in comparison to the bacon sauce. Not that there was anything wrong with my balsalmic/tarragon jus/with onions, it was good, but the bacon sauce would beat just about anything hands down. My only constructive criticism would be that the pink/red walls are a little jarring and the awning out front could use a wash (covered in bird droppings). So yeah - not much to complain about. We'd definitely go again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend others try it out. Read more
